League recap: Willis scores huge upset over Waller

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Willis, who took down 656th ranked Waller, 42-41. Jerrid Deveraux ran for 221 yards and caught two passes for five yards in the win.

Rudder moved up to 649 from 726 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region III District 18. The Rangers were able to make the jump by beating Caney Creek 63-35.

The Wildkats' dynamic duo of Lofton Bean and Dillon Bauer proved tough for the Bulldogs to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Bean threw for 153 yards and two touchdowns and Bauer had 84 yards receiving. Chris Platt helped Willis' passing attack out by catching one ball for 35 yards.

Noah McGowan provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Magnolia lost to Huntsville. He completed eight passes for 142 yards and also ran for 100 yards. McGowan's favorite target this week was Jordan Turnbow, who caught one pass for 64 yards.

Tre Guyton was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 16 carries, he ran for 237 yards as Rudder topped Waller.

Audie Jackson's team's Bean and Bauer have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Bean has thrown for 795 yards this season, while Bauer, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 18 catches for 305 yards. C.M. Pier's team's Guyton leads the league in rushing yards with 826.

A big matchup in 4A Region III District 18 this week will be when Brenham takes on the Wildkats. The Cubs are currently in first, while Willis is in fourth.

The Wildkats were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fourth in the league. Willis beat Brad Wright's team 42-41 earlier in the week.
