Softball Recap: Eastern Has No Trouble Against Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington

After losing to Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington the last time they met, Eastern decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Warriors were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Blue Jays on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won five matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Allie Grooms spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Breeanna Jimison, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chloe Hauck, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Eastern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Eastern pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.
