Preview: Maize Eagles vs. Haysville Campus Colts

The Maize Eagles will be home for the holidays to greet the Haysville Campus Colts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Maize will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 124th, while Haysville Campus is ranked 24th).

Last Tuesday, Maize came up short against Maize South and fell 54-42. Maize has not had much luck with Maize South recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Meanwhile, Haysville Campus had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They blew past Newton 83-63. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Haysville Campus to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaason Thomas, who scored 24 points along with six assists and six steals. The game was Thomas' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrell Burton, Jr, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 14 rebounds.

Maize's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Haysville Campus, they pushed their record up to 3-0 with that win, which was their third straight at home.

Maize was able to grind out a solid victory over Haysville Campus in their previous meeting back in February, winning 76-69. Does Maize have another victory up their sleeve, or will Haysville Campus turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
