Football Recap: St. Peter's Takes Down St. John the Baptist in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only St. Peter walked away with it. They strolled past the St. John the Baptist Cougars with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 14-0. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 33-13 last Saturday.

The critical scores for St. Peter's came from Victor Baez and Benjamin Terry.

St. Peter's was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 213 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 91.7 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five games they've averaged 187.

St. Peter's defense made their presence known, laying out Maurice Scott six times. The heavy lifting was done by Daniel Mills and Christopher Badon, who racked up five sacks between them. Badon also made four total tackles, which is notable because St. Peter's is 4-1 when he posts at least three total tackles, but 2-3 otherwise.

St. Peter's has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 13.2 points on average over those games. As for St. John the Baptist, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
