Football Recap: Derrick Miller's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Newton over Bryant + How To Watch

The Newton Rams ended up a good deal behind the Bryant Hornets on Friday and lost 31-14. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 43rd in Georgia, while the Hornets are ranked first in Arkansas).

Newton's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Derrick Miller, who picked up 140 receiving yards and one touchdown. Miller really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 78 yards. Another signal caller making a difference was Deron Benson, who threw for 238 yards and one TD.

This is the second loss in a row for Newton and nudges their season record down to 2-2. As for Bryant, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newton will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Archer at 7:30 p.m. on the 19th. The matchup will give the Rams their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Bryant, they will square off against Parkview at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
