Softball Game Preview: Westerville South Wildcats vs. Centerburg Trojans

The Westerville South Wildcats will take on the Centerburg Trojans at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Westerville South has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 10th.

It was a proper cat-fight when Westerville South challenged Westland on Monday. The Wildcats fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 15-14.

Maci Minister made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Paul, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Centerburg hadn't done well against Fredericktown recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Trojans won by a run and slipped past the Freddies 3-2.

Morgan Beaver spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on 11 hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Centerburg's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Bryant, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Kayla Ferrell also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Centerburg has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Westerville South, their loss dropped their record down to 2-14.
