Recap: Spring Grove Lions vs. Schaeffer Academy Lions
The Spring Grove Lions waltzed into their contest on Friday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They were the clear victor by a 55-33 margin over Schaeffer Academy. Spring Grove has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Spring Grove got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Siri Konkel out in front who scored 14 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Emerson Ingvalson, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Despite the loss, Schaeffer Academy had strong showings from Lillian Morrisey, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and four steals, and Linnea Ekbom, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds. Morrisey hasn't dropped below three blocks for three straight games.
Spring Grove's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for Schaeffer Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spring Grove and Fillmore Central will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Fillmore Central will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Spring Grove surely won't give up without a fight. As for Schaeffer Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Wabasha-Kellogg at 1:00 p.m. on January 27th. Hopefully Schaeffer Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday.
