Basketball Recap: Colby Rautenberg Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Sandy Creek

Milford lost to Sandy Creek back in February of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Milford Eagles snuck past the Sandy Creek Cougars with a 72-67 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Milford's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Colby Rautenberg, who went 6-for-9 on his way to 18 points and seven rebounds. Those 18 points gave Rautenberg a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Landon Roth, who went 5-for-12 en route to 16 points and seven boards.

When it comes to explaining why Sandy Creek lost, don't look at Ethan Shaw. Despite the final result, he posted 27 points and eight rebounds. That was a full 40.3% of Sandy Creek's points, marking the fourth time in a row Shaw has put up more than a third of the team's points. Kamerin Sealey was another key player, putting up 13 points and six boards.

Milford's victory bumped their record up to 9-12. As for Sandy Creek, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-10.

Milford didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-52 win against Boys Town on the 15th. As for Sandy Creek, they will face off against Parkview Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Sandy Creek has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
