Baseball Recap: Oak Grove Comes Up Short

If Oak Grove was feeling good fresh off their 14-2 takedown of Asheboro last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Oak Grove fell just short of the North Davidson Black Knights by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Grizzlies in their meetings with the Black Knights: they've now lost four in a row.

Carson Everhart was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Everhart wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Grayson Messer, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Messer also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

Oak Grove's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-5. As for North Davidson, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-9.

While Oak Grove had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
