Recap: Morningside Monarchs vs. Leuzinger Olympians
The Morningside Monarchs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They were outmatched by Leuzinger on the road and fell 94-20. While losing is never fun, Morningside can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1350th, while Leuzinger is ranked 291st).
Leuzinger's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Darrian Henry led the charge by scoring 18 points along with six steals. The match was Henry's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Malachi Knight, who scored 18 points along with four steals.
Morningside bumped their record down to 1-9 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Leuzinger, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-6.
Morningside will head out on the road to face off against Beverly Hills at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Leuzinger won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Cathedral Catholic at 11:00 a.m. on January 6th. Cathedral Catholic knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine contests -- so hopefully Leuzinger likes a good challenge.
