Basketball Recap: North Valleys Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact North Valleys can now relate to. They fell 61-50 to the Fernley Vaqueros on Friday. The Panthers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Vaqueros earlier this season, when they won 51-48.

When it comes to explaining why North Valleys lost, don't look at Ivy Williams. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds. Williams is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 21 games she's played. Annika Hester was another key player, putting up 14 points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, North Valleys smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 18 consecutive matches.

Taylor Tollestrup continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Fernley, dropping a double-double with 28 points and 13 rebounds. Fernley is 20-1 when Tollestrup posts 15 or more points, but 1-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jaelece Wasson, who posted 13 points.

North Valleys' record now sits at 22-5. As for Fernley, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season.

North Valleys does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Fernley, they have already played their next contest, a 63-31 defeat against Churchill County on the 15th.
