Preview: Centennial Hawks vs. Mayfield Trojans

Centennial and Mayfield are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. The Centennial Hawks will head out on the road to take on the Mayfield Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Centennial is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.

Last Friday, Centennial was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 39-34 to Alamogordo.

Meanwhile, Mayfield stacked an eighth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. Everything went their way against Las Cruces as Mayfield made off with a 52-26 victory. Mayfield pushed the score to 44-22 by the end of the third, a deficit Las Cruces had little chance of recovering from.

Mayfield got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ceanna Mckines out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Victoria Kirker, who scored 11 points along with six assists and five steals.

Centennial's defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Mayfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Centennial might still be hurting after the 46-24 defeat they got from Mayfield in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mckines, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Now that Centennial knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
