Basketball Recap: East Mecklenburg Falls Despite Big Games from Jurnee Darling and Kameyah Browm

East Mecklenburg saw some tournament action on Friday. The matchup between them and the East Lincoln Mustangs didn't end well, with the East Mecklenburg Eagles falling 62-43. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 394th, while the Mustangs are ranked 177th).

East Mecklenburg's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kameyah Browm, who posted ten points and eight boards, and Jurnee Darling, who put up 15 points and five assists. Those five assists gave Darling a new career-high.

Even though they lost, East Mecklenburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

It was another big night for Lane Pethel, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 24 rebounds for East Lincoln. The team also got some help courtesy of Taniyah Thomas, who had seven points in addition to six assists and six boards.

East Mecklenburg's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for East Lincoln, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3.

East Mecklenburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 55-45 loss against West Stanly on the 28th. As for East Lincoln, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 63-22 victory against Central Cabarrus on the 28th.
