Football Recap: South Lakes Falls Despite Big Games from Christian Wyatt and Josh Dagbe

South Lakes and Westfield squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but South Lakes had to settle for second. They fell 31-21 to the Bulldogs. The game was a 7-7 toss-up at halftime, but the Seahawks couldn't quite close it out.

South Lakes' loss came despite strong showings from Josh Dagbe and Christian Wyatt. Dagbe gained 130 total yards, while Wyatt threw for 262 yards and one touchdown while completing 83.3% of his passes. Dagbe didn't just play on offense: he also made six total tackles and defended two passes.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to PJ Sutherland and Merrit Clinton. Sutherland rushed for 144 yards and one score while Clinton rushed for 51 yards and three TDs. Sutherland's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 100 rushing yards.

South Lakes has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season. As for Westfield, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-3.

South Lakes does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Westfield, they will welcome James Madison at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Warhawks have now posted at least 31 points in their last six matchups.
