Baseball Recap: Catholic Central Takes a Loss

Catholic Central extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 3-11. They lost 11-5 to the University School of Milwaukee Wildcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hilltoppers of the 8-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

As for University School of Milwaukee, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. Considering they have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For University School of Milwaukee's part, Mason Kroening made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, Kroening posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Willy McGregor was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ishaan Naik, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Catholic Central will venture away from home to take on Lake Country Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Lightning will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for University School of Milwaukee, they will square off against St. Francis at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Mariners have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.9 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
