Basketball Game Preview: Cocoa Beach Minutemen vs. Edgewood Red Wolves

The Cocoa Beach Minutemen will square off against the Edgewood Red Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Cocoa Beach and four for Edgewood.

Last Monday, Cocoa Beach came up short against Cocoa and fell 47-40.

Meanwhile, Edgewood lost to Geneva at home by a 74-55 margin on Monday.

Cocoa Beach will have to keep a close watch on Santiago Jimenez and Eddie Monterrubio, a pair of players who had a big impact on Edgewood's prior game. Jimenez went 8 of 19 en route to 20 points along with six rebounds and five steals, while Monterrubio dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards. Jimenez is becoming a predictor of Edgewood's success: when he posts at least three steals the team is 2-1 (and 1-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Manan Patel, who posted nine points.

Even though they lost, Edgewood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive games.

Cocoa Beach's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Edgewood, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.

Everything went Cocoa Beach's way against Edgewood in their previous matchup on Wednesday, as Cocoa Beach made off with a 58-33 victory. Will Cocoa Beach repeat their success, or does Edgewood have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
