Football Recap: Batavia Comes Up Short

Batavia extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 4-3. They were outmatched by the Monroe Red Jackets and fell 50-0. While losing is never fun, the Blue Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 187th, while the Red Jackets are ranked 30th).

As for Monroe, the win keeps them at an undefeated 7-0. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 48.0 points this season.

Monroe's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Messiah Hampton, who picked up 223 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Hampton really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 92 yards. Another passer making a difference was Pooty Cunningham, who threw for 350 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.9% of his passes.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Batavia will head out to face off against Medina at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Devils will need to watch out since the Mustangs have now posted at least 31 points in their last four contests. As for Monroe, they are taking a road trip to challenge Bishop Timon-St. Jude at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Red Jackets will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 31.33 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
