Basketball Recap: Gaven Mellott's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Southern Fulton over Portage

Southern Fulton played a tough matchup on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 59-36 to the Portage Mustangs.

Southern Fulton's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gaven Mellott, who posted 11 points and six rebounds. Mellott is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Trentin Cain, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 10 points and five rebounds.

Southern Fulton's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Portage, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-1.

Southern Fulton won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Windber at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Windber will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Southern Fulton surely won't give up without a fight. As for Portage, they and Northern Cambria will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest having both just played.
