Baseball Game Preview: Melvindale Cardinals vs. Roosevelt Bears

The Melvindale Cardinals will challenge the Roosevelt Bears at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Friday, Melvindale came up short against Grosse Ile and fell 7-4. The Cardinals have struggled against the Red Devils recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Meanwhile, Roosevelt didn't have quite enough to beat West Bloomfield on Friday and fell 8-6. The Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jadn' McGowen was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

McGowen wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Connor Bedo, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Peyton Webster was another, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Melvindale's loss dropped their record down to 16-11. As for Roosevelt, they now have a losing record of 12-13.

Melvindale came out on top in a nail-biter against Roosevelt in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
