Baseball Recap: San Marcos Comes Up Short

San Marcos fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Santa Barbara on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Dons by a score of 2-1. The Royals' loss continues a trend for the team, making it five in a row.

David Burkholder was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits.

On the hitting side, San Marcos saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miles Herbert, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.

San Marcos' defeat dropped their record down to 6-19. As for Santa Barbara, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-7-1.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. San Marcos is set to square off against their familiar foe Buena at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Santa Barbara will face off against rival Pacifica at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Dons 3.2, the Tritons 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
