Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Elmwood

Elmwood won the last time they faced Astoria/VIT and things went their way on Thursday too. The Elmwood Trojans came out on top against the Astoria/VIT Rebels by a score of 43-36. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 285th, while the Rebels are ranked 617th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Astoria/VIT had strong showings from Preslea Parker, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards, and Hannah Horwedel, who posted ten points and four steals. Horwedel has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played.

The victory (which was Elmwood's third in a row) raised their record to 15-11. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.7 points per game. As for Astoria/VIT, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-19.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elmwood will take on Deer Creek-Mackinaw at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Deer Creek-Mackinaw will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Elmwood surely won't give up without a fight. Astoria/VIT has already played their next match (against Monmouth United), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
