Baseball Game Preview: Franklin Patriots vs. Lamphere Rams

The Franklin Patriots will face off against the Lamphere Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Franklin will come into the match with an undefeated record on the line.

Franklin is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Farmington on Saturday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Patriots with their most commanding win of the season.

Franklin got a great performance from Thomas Wiwigacz as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits.

On the hitting side, Landon Gross was a standout: he scored a run while going 2-for-4. Andrew Mullins was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.

Franklin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Farmington only posted an OBP of .318.

Meanwhile, Lamphere faced Utica in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Rams lost 11-4 to the Chieftains. The loss was just more heartbreak for the Rams, who fell 7-5 when the teams last met back in March of 2022.

Braylon Cox was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. He also brought in two RBI, marking his first of the season.

Lamphere's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Franklin, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.

Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Franklin has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .469. However, it's not like Lamphere struggles in that department as they've averaged .461. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Franklin was able to grind out a solid victory over Lamphere in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, winning 9-5. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
