Basketball Recap: Middleburg Comes Up Short

Middleburg came up into this matchup off a tough 35-point loss last Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Stanton Blue Devils by a score of 65-63 on Thursday. Even if the Broncos couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their offense, which had struggled int the games prior.

Despite the defeat, Middleburg saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aiyana Haynes went 7 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 34 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Haynes has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Maggie Bodway, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 15 points.

Middleburg's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Stanton, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-12.

Middleburg has already played their next matchup, a 72-22 defeat against Fleming Island on the 25th. As for Stanton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 38-33 win against Englewood on the 28th.
