Softball Recap: Monterey Trail's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Monterey Trail can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They came out on top against the St. Mary's Rams by a score of 6-1.

Maya Ewing made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Aniyah Whipper was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.

Monterey Trail hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 3-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Monterey Trail's victory bumped their record up to 5-7. As for St. Mary's, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monterey Trail will take on Elk Grove at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Mustangs 3.3, the Thundering Herd 4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for St. Mary's, they are taking a road trip to square off against West at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
