Basketball Game Preview: Spackenkill Spartans vs. Highland Huskies

Spackenkill hasn't had much luck against Highland recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Spartans will venture away from home to challenge the Huskies at 6:00 p.m. Spackenkill will be strutting in after a win while Highland will be coming in after a loss.

Highland will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Spackenkill extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Spartans came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 50-44 W against Wallkill. The score was all tied up 24-24 at the break, but the Spartans were the better team in the second half.

Spackenkill relied on the efforts of Kyrie Thomas, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and ten rebounds, and Sadie Finn, who posted 15 points in addition to seven assists and six boards. Those seven assists gave Finn a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Highland was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Wednesday as they fell 47-41 to Minisink Valley.

Highland's defeat dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Spackenkill, their record now sits at 11-7.

Spackenkill lost to Highland on the road by a decisive 39-22 margin when the teams last played back in January. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
