Baseball Recap: Sumner Academy Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Sumner Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Highland Park Scots, sneaking past 21-19. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Sabres have posted since May 8, 2025.

Sergio Quinonez and Aden Bergman did most of the damage at the plate: Quinonez got on base in all six of his plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one triple, while Bergman went 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Quinonez has become a key player for Sumner Academy: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Xavian Gisolf, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Sumner Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since the start of last season.

The win made it two in a row for Sumner Academy and bumps their season record up to 5-12. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.5 runs over those games. As for Highland Park, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-10-1.
