Baseball Game Preview: Union Academy Cardinals vs. Albemarle Bulldogs

Union Academy has gone 9-1 against Albemarle recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. Union Academy will be playing at home against Albemarle at 7:00 p.m. Union Academy will be strutting in after a victory while Albemarle will be coming in after a loss.

Union Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Gray Stone Day on Friday. That's two games straight that the Cardinals have won by exactly ten runs.

Brett Moore made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.

In other batting news, Beckett Gurian and Christian Pawl did most of the damage at the plate: Gurian scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Pawl scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Pawl has become a key player for Union Academy: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ethan Rowe, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Union Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.7 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.

Meanwhile, Albemarle was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 16-1 to North Stanly. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 31, 2023, but that streak is no more.

The win made it two in a row for Union Academy and bumps their season record up to 4-7. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Albemarle, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

Union Academy took their win against Albemarle in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 24-0. Does Union Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Albemarle turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
