With nine state championships, it's not hard to see why Saguaro is king of the Grand Canyon State.

Video: Recap - Saguaro vs. Catalina Foothills 2016
See the Sabercats in action as they win their ninth state crown since 2006.

Nine tiles since 2006. Nine top 10 rankings in 11 years. That's a pretty good resume and the reason Saguaro is the most dominant football program in Arizona since MaxPreps became America's source for high school sports in 2006.

Our point system rewards high-ranking finishes, but also puts a premium on championships. And Saguaro has both covered for the past 11 years. The Sabercats won five state titles from 2006-11 and have reeled off another four in a row from 2013 to last season. The 2016 season was a magical 14-0 campaign that included a No. 2 state ranking and No. 13 rank in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.

No less impressive is No. 2 Hamilton's run of five titles and three runner-up finishes in the MaxPreps era.

Here is how the points break down:

1. 20 for a state title

2. 10 for state championship game appearance

3. Other points are based on where a team finished in the final MaxPreps Arizona Football Computer Rankings presented by the Army National Guard. For example, if a team finished No. 1 overall, it would receive 25 points. If it finished 25th overall, the team would get one point. No points are awarded if the team did not finish in the Top 25.
