Basketball Recap: Kam Rose's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wilson over West Mesquite

Wilson came up into this matchup off a tough 36-point loss last Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the West Mesquite Wranglers by a score of 35-33 on Tuesday. The Wildcats lost against the Wranglers in their previous head to head back in February of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 51-26 score last time.

Wilson lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kam Rose, who posted 11 points and five steals. Rose has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Diana Jaimes, who had nine points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Wilson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Wilson has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season. As for West Mesquite, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wilson will head out to challenge Samuell at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Samuell's defense has only allowed 29.1 points per game this season, so Wilson's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for West Mesquite, they are taking a road trip to square off against Spruce at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
