Baseball Recap: Hawthorne Math & Science Academy Gets the Win

Hawthorne Math & Science Academy won the last time they faced WISH Academy and things went their way on Monday too. The Hawthorne Math & Science Academy Aviators blew past the WISH Academy Owls 11-1.

Jose Fernandez was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Fernandez was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Fernandez is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's stole at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Fabian Mercado, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Ortiz, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Hawthorne Math & Science Academy's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-1-1. As for WISH Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hawthorne Math & Science Academy will square off against Locke at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for WISH Academy, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Dr. Maya Angelou Community at 3:00 p.m. on March 5th.
