Montrose hasn't had much luck against Fruita Monument recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Montrose is headed into Wednesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Saturday. They lost 12-1 to Glenwood Springs. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 5, 2019, but that streak is no more.
Montrose saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brekin Hutto, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Fruita Monument waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Warriors get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory.
Grand Junction Central's batters probably weren't too happy with Josh Weaver, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 14 Ks (he gave up zero walks). Weaver has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Noah Brackett was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Dean Marsh also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Fruita Monument hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Fruita Monument's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-8. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Montrose, their loss dropped their record down to 4-14.
Montrose might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Fruita Monument in their previous matchup on April 4th. Can the Red Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
