Preview: Mariner vs. Mount Vernon

If the MaxPreps state rankings hold true, the near future looks bright for Mount Vernon. On Friday they take on Mariner at 7:00 PM. Mount Vernon strut in flaunting some offensive muscle with an average of 31.8 points per game.

After a disappointing 7 points in their last contest, Mount Vernon made sure to put some points up on the board against Monroe last Friday. Mount Vernon were able to grind out a solid victory over Monroe, winning 45-34. No one put up better numbers for Mount Vernon than senior Seth Tercero, who brought his A game into the match. He rushed for 238 yards and 2 touchdowns. Tercero has been a consistent playmaker for Mount Vernon as this was the 5th good game in a row from him.

Meanwhile, after having lost a blowout in their matchup two weeks ago against Monroe, Mariner were happy to find some success. Mariner were the clear victor by a 31-3 margin over Jackson. With Mariner ahead 24-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Their wins bumped Mount Vernon to 4-1 and Mariner to 2-3. The Mount Vernon defense got after the quarterback against Monroe to the tune of five sacks, so Mariner's offensive line better have put in some good practice this past week in preparation for the match.
