Baseball Recap: Waverly Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Waverly and Gretna East squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Waverly had to settle for second. They came up short against the Griffins, falling 6-0. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Griffins earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

Waverly saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Drew Koch, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Waverly has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 22-11 record this season. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 24-5 Skutt Catholic (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 69.2% over those games). As for Gretna East, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a massive bump to their 19-10 record this season.

Waverly does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gretna East, they will take on Skutt Catholic at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Griffins 2.7, the SkyHawks 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
