Basketball Recap: Scottie Bieker Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Loomis

Bertrand won the last time they faced Loomis and things went their way on Saturday too. The Vikings walked away with a 68-61 win over the Wolves. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vikings.

Bertrand's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Scottie Bieker led the charge by dropping a double-double with 15 points and 15 boards. Bieker is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Thunder Nelson, who went 8-for-19 en route to 19 points along with six assists and four steals.

Bertrand was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Loomis only racked up nine.

Grady Keeshan and Graham Trompke certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Keeshan shot 50% from the field to rack up 11 points and five boards, while Trompke posted 11 points and eight rebounds. Trompke also put up two steals, which were his first of the season. Jace Schukar was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Bertrand now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Loomis, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bertrand will take on Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood] in a holiday battle at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Loomis and Maxwell will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolves will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 62.5 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
