The Spaulding Red Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Alvirne Broncos at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Spaulding couldn't beat Bishop Guertin on Monday even though they stacked four runs on them in the sixth inning. The Red Raiders fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 8-7. The Red Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Owen Nesbitt was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. Nesbitt was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Brandon Scamman made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Enman, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Alvirne earned a 4-1 win over Merrimack on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Broncos in their matchups with the Tomahawks: they've now won six in a row.
Not much got past Brady Mitchell, who gave up just four hits to keep Merrimack off the board.
At the plate, Alvirne saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan Orr, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Spaulding's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8-1. As for Alvirne, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 3-9.
Alvirne's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Spaulding has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Alvirne, though, as they've been averaging only 4.2 strikeouts. Will Spaulding keep running through batters, or will the Broncos buck the trend?
