Preview: Milford Mavericks vs. Salem Rocks
Milford is 3-0 against Salem since February of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Milford Mavericks are on the road again and play against the Salem Rocks at 7:00 p.m. on December 19th. Milford will be strutting in after a win while Salem will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Friday, Milford earned a 49-40 win over Walled Lake Western. Given Milford's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Walled Lake Western is ranked 474th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Salem pushed their score all the way to 65 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Oxford by a score of 68-65. Salem has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Salem got a solid performance out of Ryan Peters, who scored 29 points along with three steals. The game was Peters' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Eric Milt jr. was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Milford pushed their record up to 4-2 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points per game. As for Salem, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
Milford barely slipped by Salem when the teams last played back in December of 2022, winning 53-52. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Salem's Pryor Reynolds, who scored 22 points. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Milford to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
