Baseball Game Preview: Puyallup Vikings vs. Sumner Spartans

Puyallup is on an 11-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Sumner is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Vikings will host the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Puyallup had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Bonney Lake on Friday. The Vikings put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 9-1 victory.

Puyallup got a great performance from Maxwell Schweyen as he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Schweyen a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Riley Sanoy, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Landry, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Puyallup kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bonney Lake only managed two hits.

Meanwhile, while Sumner put up plenty of runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Spanaway Lake. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Sentinels. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Spartans considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Puyallup's win bumped their record up to 10-0. As for Sumner, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.

Everything went Puyallup's way against Sumner in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Puyallup made off with a 9-3 win. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
