Recap: Bourgade Catholic Golden Eagles vs. Tempe Buffaloes
This season hasn't been kind to The Bourgade Catholic Golden Eagles, who are still winless after their ninth game. They were dealt a 58-12 defeat at the hands of Tempe on Friday.
Bourgade Catholic's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Eli Salas, who threw for 217 yards and two touchdowns while completing 71.9% of his passes.
Leading Tempe to victory were Jamichael Keeton and Saul Mendez. Keeton picked up 78 receiving yards and three touchdowns, while Mendez threw for 226 yards and five touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes.
Bourgade Catholic's defeat was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-10. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-1 Valley Christian and 9-1 Mohave (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 59.5% over those games). As for Tempe, their win bumped their record up to 5-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bourgade Catholic will challenge San Tan Foothills at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Tempe, they will head out on the road to face off against Gilbert Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
