Basketball Recap: Donovan Dickens' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wilson Prep over Northampton County

Wilson Prep was the 74-72 winner over Northampton County when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Wilson Prep Tigers took a 71-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northampton County Jaguars on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (60), the Tigers still had to take the loss.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Donovan Dickens, who went 9 for 14 en route to 23 points and five rebounds. Keontae Barron was another key player, going 7 of 11 on his way to 16 points and four steals.

Northampton County had a senior duo take command as Jiyoun Williams went 5 for 11 en route to 18 points and six boards and Jereminah Gholson went 8 of 15 on his way to 23 points. With that strong performance, Gholson is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Torrey Harris, who posted 13 points.

Wilson Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Northampton County, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 10-4.

Wilson Prep has already played their next matchup, a 77-57 victory against Northwest Halifax on the 18th. As for Northampton County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 76-51 loss against J.H. Rose on the 18th.
