Preview: Scotland Fighting Scots vs. Southern Durham Spartans
The Scotland Fighting Scots will be playing in front of their home fans against the Southern Durham Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Scotland walked away with it. They put the hurt on Rocky Mount with a sharp 48-23 victory on Friday.
Zay Jones was his usual excellent self, rushing for 242 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. Jones is absolutely dominating the rushing yard category: he's posted at least 100 every time he's taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Southern Durham entered their tilt with Eastern Alamance with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Southern Durham really took it to Eastern Alamance for the full four quarters, racking up a 36-7 victory on the road. Southern Durham pushed the score to 29-7 by the end of the third, a deficit Eastern Alamance had little chance of recovering from.
Southern Durham had a senior duo take command as Jordan McClure threw for 405 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 13.5 yards per attempt and Amir Hall picked up 210 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Hall's longest reception was for an incredible 87 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalen McKee, who rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Scotland's victory bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Southern Durham, they pushed their record up to 7-4 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as the pair have no problem gaining yardage. Scotland has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 414.9 total yards per game. However, it's not like Southern Durham struggles in that department as they've been averaging 397.5 per game.
