Basketball Recap: Bloomfield Takes a Loss

Bloomfield's game on Thursday was all tied up 14-14 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell 30-23 to the Aztec Tigers. The Bobcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 39-34.

When it comes to explaining why Bloomfield lost, don't look at Delanna Russell. Despite the final result, she posted eight points and ten rebounds. Russell has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last nine times she's played.

Leading Aztec to victory were Jazzlyn Gomez and Amya Wilson. Gomez dropped a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Wilson scored two points and six boards. Gomez also grabbed six steals, which is notable because Aztec is 12-6 when she posts at least five steals, but 0-5 otherwise.

Bloomfield has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. The win made it two in a row for Aztec and bumps their season record up to 12-11.

Bloomfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 75-25 loss against Gallup on the 15th. As for Aztec, they have also already played their next game, a 40-35 defeat against Shiprock on the 15th.
