Recap: Durango Demons vs. Battle Mountain Huskies
The Durango Demons posted their biggest win yet this season on Friday. They breezed by Battle Mountain at home to the tune of 43-11. Given Durango's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while Battle Mountain is ranked 239th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Durango's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mariah Maestas, who scored ten points along with seven steals. Another player making a difference was Katelynn Sheppard, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Battle Mountain struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Durango now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Battle Mountain, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
Durango won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Eagle Valley at 11:30 a.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Eagle Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 34 last Thursday. As for Battle Mountain, they will head out on the road to face off against Grand Junction Central at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Grand Junction Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Saturday.
