Basketball Game Preview: Kirbyville Wildcats vs. Newton Eagles

Kirbyville is on a five-game streak of home losses also dating back to last season, Newton an eight-game streak of away losses also dating back to last season, but someone's luck will change on Friday. The Kirbyville Wildcats will host the Newton Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Last Tuesday, Kirbyville was beaten by Evadale 81-33. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1356th, while the Rebels are ranked 542nd).

Meanwhile, Newton had to start their season on the road last Tuesday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They came up short against West Sabine, falling 48-27.

Kirbyville's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Newton, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Kirbyville didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Newton in their previous meeting back in January of 2022, but they still walked away with a 56-52 win.
