Basketball Recap: Delaney Wright's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Palisade over Durango

Palisade lost against Durango back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Palisade Bulldogs fell 36-28 to the Durango Demons. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Demons are ranked 33rd).

Palisade lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Delaney Wright, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Wright is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mady Bavor, who posted ten points.

Durango's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Claire Goodwin led the charge by putting up 14 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Mariah Maestas, who had seven points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Palisade's record now sits at 11-8. As for Durango, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-4.

Coming up, Palisade will venture away from home to take on Grand Junction at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Palisade is facing Grand Junction at the right time seeing as Grand Junction is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Durango, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Montrose at 5:30 p.m. Montrose's defense has only allowed 28.4 points per game this season, so Durango's offense will have their work cut out for them.
