Basketball Preview: GVCS Broadfording Lions vs. Southern Rams
GVCS Broadfording is 0-3 against the Rams since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the GVCS Broadfording Lions will get right back to it and host the Southern Rams at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
GVCS Broadfording came into Monday's matchup having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past Cumberland Valley Christian 68-47. The score was close at the half, but GVCS Broadfording pulled away in the second half with 41 points.
GVCS Broadfording relied on the efforts of Jordan Shifler, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds, and Brandon Monroe, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Monroe continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Camari White was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Southern came tearing into Monday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 56-49 victory over Keyser.
Isaiah Keller continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Wilt, who scored 11 points.
GVCS Broadfording's victory bumped their record up to 6-22. As for Southern, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: GVCS Broadfording have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Southern struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
