High school football is always evolving.

Trends changing the game at the moment include pass-heavy no huddle offenses, legislating against targeting and helmet-to-helmet contact and even the way coaches communicate via social media.

One that often gets overlooked is the shift from natural grass fields to synthetic turf.



In some pockets of the country, the majority of teams are playing on artificial surfaces.

That has opened the door for some unusual spins on the green grass fans are used to watching the game be played on. Red, black, purple and even multi-colored patterns have been installed at high schools around the country. Boise State's blue has nothing on these fields.
