Softball Game Preview: Hopkins Hilltoppers vs. St. Luke's Storm

The Hopkins Hilltoppers will take on the St. Luke's Storm at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Hopkins fell victim to Choate Rosemary Hall School and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 8-0 to the Wild Boars.

Meanwhile, St. Luke's had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Wildcats as they made off with a 21-6 victory. The result was nothing new for the Storm, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Lucia Biasotti made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

In other batting news, St. Luke's got a massive performance out of Ellie Fatsi, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Fatsi has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Lucy Millones was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.

St. Luke's was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .350 or higher in eight consecutive matchups.

St. Luke's pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.3 runs over those games. As for Hopkins, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Hopkins might still be hurting after the 9-0 loss they got from St. Luke's in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Can the Hilltoppers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
