Basketball Recap: Morgan Park Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Cecelia Drown and Tiara Williams

If Morgan Park Academy was riding high fresh off their 58-14 takedown of Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Morgan Park Academy Warriors fell 61-49 to the Intrinsic Charter School Downtown Campus Ravens on Wednesday. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Warriors, who until this contest were averaging 28 points allowed.

Despite the loss, Morgan Park Academy had strong showings from Tiara Williams, who posted 21 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, and Cecelia Drown, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points. That was a full 42.9% of Morgan Park Academy's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Logan Lomax, who scored two points and six boards.

Morgan Park Academy's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 12-2. As for Intrinsic Charter School Downtown Campus, they moved to 4-7 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Morgan Park Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 55-30 victory against British International School of Chicago on the 10th. As for Intrinsic Charter School Downtown Campus, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 49-14 win against Wolcott College Prep on the 13th.
