Football Recap: Ethan Newsome Leads South Stokes' Defense on Friday

After soaring to 34 points the game before, South Stokes was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They fell just short of the North Stokes Vikings by a score of 14-12. The Sauras were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

South Stokes didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Ethan Newsome.

North Stokes' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gavin Hernandez led the charge by picking up 166 receiving yards. Those 166 receiving yards gave Hernandez a new career-high. Jackson Bodenhamer was another key receiver, picking up 43 receiving yards and two scores.

South Stokes' defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for North Stokes, the victory made it two in a row for them and also bumps their season record up to 4-6.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. South Stokes will challenge Cherryville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Sauras will be up against the Ironmen's rather soft defense (which has allowed 30 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for North Stokes, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on East Columbus on the 14th. The Vikings are facing the Gators at the right time seeing as the Gators are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
