After each having a week off, the Midlothian Heritage Jaguars and the Terrell Tigers will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Midlothian Heritage comes in on three and Terrell on five.
Midlothian Heritage is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 56-21 win over Ennis. With that victory, the Jaguars brought their scoring average up to 29.2 points per game.
It was another big night for Dax Montelongo, who rushed for 214 yards and five scores on only 12 carries, and also threw for 184 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 72-yard run. Another player making a difference was Za'Ko Davis, who gained 123 total yards and two touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Midlothian Heritage was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 266 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 182 rushing yards in three consecutive contests.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Midlothian Heritage's defense and their three sacks. In that department, Zion Johnson was the leader with two.
Meanwhile, Terrell won against Corsicana back in September with 56 points and they decided to stick to that point total again last Friday. The Tigers simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Kaufman 56-14. Fans of the Tigers have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
Terrell's win came from a few key players Midlothian Heritage will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was JULIAN ASHLEY, who rushed for 120 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of RODERICK HAMBRICK JR., who rushed for 84 yards and two scores.
Terrell's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Midlothian Heritage, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Thursday's game might be decided on the ground. Midlothian Heritage has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 182.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Terrell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 248.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Midlothian Heritage was able to grind out a solid victory over Terrell in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, winning 21-14. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Tigers' T'Myan Ambers, who rushed for 111 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be easier for the Jaguars to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
